Martha Stewart. Inside trader. Domestic dominatrix. Employer from Hell. Electronic media pioneer.
That last tag may seem out of place in Martha Stewart‘s dark cloud. But it’s true. She’s reworked her magazine into iPad format that acts as a showcase for the capabilities of the device.
Well actually Martha had very little to do with the creation. Putting credit where it belongs, her handlers get the bouquet of pink roses for developing a really, really good adaptation of Living for the iPad. Despite the hype from MSLO and Adobe, I’m unclear if this effort is from Martha’s creative team or is really just a re-badged product of a creative agency.
That does sound cynical. But remember, we’re talking about a corporation headed by a celebrity whose persona is so contrived that I wouldn’t be surprised to discover that she’s nothing but a hologram. Aunt Jemima and Betty Crocker strike me as more genuine.
I’ll let Adobe tell the story as they indulge in this mutual admiration society session with MSLO.
As much as it pains me to be complicit in promoting the product called Martha Stewart with this post, I do have to admit that America’s scariest cookie-hustler does know how to employ a team that produces good creative work (or knows where to buy it). Living for iPad is good inspiration for everyone trying to reinvent print media for online consumption.
